Twins vs Red Sox – 4.14.10

Jumbotron
Target Field is finally open! We were there for the second regular season game held at Target Field which happened to be at 12:10PM on Wednesday, April 14, 2010.

But, I’m getting ahead of myself. Chris & I decided that the right way to start off a weekday, daytime baseball game (aka day away from work!) was to invite everyone over for bloody mary’s. We only had 2 takers, but the 4 of us had a really nice breakfast with our bloody mary’s and headed to the light rail around 10AM. The train was quite crowded for 2 hrs before game time…it turns out a lot of people wanted a chance to look around the park just like we did.
First Game at Target Field
We walked around most of the lower level (and even risked the massive crowd at the Majestic Pro Shop!) before finding the way to our seats in section 314. Here’s a shot of the infield from the lower level:

And here’s a view of the whole field from our seats:

It was kind of surreal sitting in Target Field. We had just been to Houston and attended a game at Minute Maid Park and so it seemed more like we were at an Away game watching the Twins play rather than being at the new Home of the Twins. All I’ve ever known was the Metrodome (that I remember anyway) and so I think it might take awhile for the reality to sink in. Luckily, it’s a gorgeous ballpark and there are many upgrades from the Metrodome so I think we’ll have no problem feeling right at home!

The game had its fair share of excitement, including the first rain at Target Field, and it was a close contest until the 8th inning when Jesse Crain decided to give up a bunch of runs with 2 outs in the top of the 8th. I was happy to see Cuddy get a home run in the bottom of the 8th, but unfortunately it was a solo shot & there were no runs after that. So…we saw the first rain during a Twins game at Target Field AND the first loss. Sad, but I’m still happy we went!

Here’s a partial group shot (it’s not great, but it’s all I’ve got!):

We’ve got tickets to more games throughout the season and I am really looking forward to “getting to know” Target Field.
